Day1. Briefing

Kings Cross Station

Many people would take flights when traveling to Norway. But this time, it's the train journey. My travel started from London King's Cross station.

[Attention] Book your tickets in advance! Otherwise you will be charged the full fare.

Newcastle Port

It's the terminal where I checked in. Guess, for what I checked in? It's the ferry terminal in Newcastle, United Kingdom. I am taking the 26 hours of North Sea ferry journey to Norway.

MF Jupiter on River Tyne

Good Bye UK. Now heading to Scandinavia by ferry. Nobody told me that the weather was going to be bad, but there was nowhere else I could go. This time, I am backpacking. The only things I got were the return ferry ticket, (a week) Scan Rail Pass and my passport.

Day2. Arriving in West Coast of Norway

Bergen

[14:30] Arrive at Bergen. The first stop of the ferry was Bergen. The city looked very exciting, but I didn't get off there because I am coming back later.

Haugesund

[21:15] Arrive at Haugesund. This is where I landed in Norway. There was nothing around the ferry port, so I walked to the city center to take a bus, heading to my friend's house in Akrehamn. (I think...) It took more than 1 hour to reach the destination.

Day3. Stavanger and Sandnes

Friend House

[09:30] Leave Friend's House. This is the Norwegian house where I stayed the 1st night in Norway.

Boat to Stavanger

[10:20] Take a Boat. Takeing a boat from nearest port, we headed to Stavanger.

Breiavatnet

[10:20] Arrived at Stavanger. Breiavatnet is the little lake in the city center of Stavanger.

Stavanger Pedestrian Shopping Streets

This is the shopping area in Stavanger.

Strandkaien

This is Strandkaien, nice area around the harbor.

Shopping Center in Sandnes

[14:30] Arrived at Sandnes. This is the city where my friend used to live.

Church in Sandnes

This is a church in Sandnes.

Sandnes Train Station

What do you think this is? It is the entrance of the train station.

Train to Stavanger

[14:30] Leave Sandnes. Going Back to Stavanger. My friend went home when we arrived Stavanger.

NSB Night Train

[22:15] Night Train Came in. I waited so long time for the train at the station because there was nothing outside the station at that time.

NSB Seating Carriage

This is the seating carriage, which I took.

NSB Buffet Coach

The buffet coach was also available.

NSB Night Train at Night

[23:30] Train Departed to Oslo. The lights were turned off after the ticket inspection.

Day3. Oslo

Oslo Sentralstasjon

[07:20] Arrived at Oslo. This is the Oslo central station where all the long distance train arrives and departs.

In Front of Oslo S Station

I looked at the timetable of the train and decided to travel to Stockholm. Until the next train, I got about 4 hours to look around the city.

Oslotrikken

Because it was during the Easter holiday, many things including the tourist information were closed. I could only find a tourist map in Norwegian, so I grabbed it and went out the station.

University of Oslo

This is the University of Oslo.

Slottet

This is Slottet, the Royal Palace.

Oslo Cathedral

Walking around the city, it was almost the time for the next train. This is Oslo Cathedral

Train in Oslo

I found an underground train for going back to the central station.

View from Linx Train

[12:00] Left for Stockholm, Sweden You will need to make a seat reservation for Linx (Linx is no longer in operation. However this route has been re-launched by SJ) trains between Oslo and Stockholm due to the governmental agreements, and you will be charged for the reservation fee.

Stockholm C Station

[16:00] Arrive at Stockholm central station, Sweden

Riverside in Stockholm

Still better than Oslo, the city was like a ghost town because of the Easter holiday. Anyway, it was just a few hours transit, so it wasn't really matter.

SJ Night Train

[22:00] Depart Stockholm. Take a night train to Malmo, the border station to Denmark.

Inside SJ Night Train

The train looks old, but the seating was much comfortable than NSB. The layout of the seat is really different from other trains.
